A hidden, interactive installation, an experimental kabinet and laborint of thoughtographic exposure. Secretely embedded in a setting that reminds of the aesthetics of the british television series The Avengers, the concept of the exhibition foresees different interweaving layers: Laborint, Limbo and Lichtung. An eye catching camouflage for a rather delicate if not invisible content.
Thought is a radiant, creative, almost material power, the fiat lux of
the bible. During the process of thinking, the soul turns the atoms of the brain into waves and makes its phosphor glow. With concentrating ones thought onto any object with simple outlines, like a bottle forexample, the fluidic thought image will be forced out through the eyes to expose itself through the power of its glow onto the photographicplate. The result is a photographic image.

[Louis Darget, 1911
All walls of the Laborint will be decorated with wallpaper, underlayed entirely with photographic paper. Alleged emissions of fluids, through emotions, concentration, thoughts are getting absorbed by the wallpaper and burnt into the photographic material mounted behind it. The unaware as the aware visitor is leaning against, touching or striving the wall and has a direct influence onto the hidden light sensitive material. Hereby thoughtographic theories are investigated, where the transmission process is happening via direct bodily contact.°
A variety of mirrors - all over the room. The visitor can merely escape them, and catch his/hers eyes. Secretely or obviously. The unsuspecting viewer doesn't know, that the mirror is coated from behind with a photographic emulsion. He/She looks into the mirror, and sees him/herself.He/She doesn't know, that at the other side of the mirror is a spy that absorbs his/her image and thoughts. This spy is nobody else than the photographic emulsion.°
A collection of different. handmirrors, coated with Liquid Light. The coated mirror will be exposed to light and to constantly and directly absorb - without any hiding- the reflections of the onlookers.

As the coating of the emulsion leaves the mirror somehow blurry or allegedly blind, it appearantly denies its purpose.

Constant light exposure provokes a constant changing of the emulsion until its supersaturation, though remaining invisible and unnoticeable to the viewer. The exposed emulsion keeps on changing and may only be revealed and made visible, if ever, throughout processing, which will never happen.
The air itself is one vast library, on whose pages are for ever written all that man has ever said or woman whispered and the ‘earth, air and ocean are the eternal witnesses of the acts we have done’.
Charles Babbage
° The kabinet, - Limbo - a light tight room, furnished with a comfortable armchair and a standing lamp. Projection space for the camera of thoughtography and intraocular lights.
The proposed exhibition kabinett reveals and brings to light throughout an experimental and artistic approach nowadays unknown or long forgotten thoughtographic researches of the 19th and 20th century. It further seeks to open up their scientific isolation and allow new and playful perspectives, possibilities and directions.

This project may be either experienced as a complete, here described and visualised experimental laborint or single experiments/kabinetts may be extracted and integrated into other maybe foreign environments.
A virtual fluidum, a magnetic power, a so called animal magnetism, is, what a certain Franz Anton Mesmer, a german medical, healer and hypnoticist of the mid 18th century, discovered and practised in his largely controversial, but nowadays almost accepted and rather succesful healing processes. According to Mesmer the entire atmosphere and therefore every living being is inhabited by this virtual, magnetic fluidum. Illnesses or deseases are a sign of a magnetic imbalance in the body. Medicals who are also educated in magnetising should be able to reembalance the missing fluid throughout socalled magnetic brushings. Patients, who have been under hypnosis during the healing process, claim to have seen these invisible magnetic powers in different shining colours.

LICHTUNG
Thoughtography is the ability to psychically project, expose and burn images from one's mind onto lightsensitive surfaces.
The thoughtographic kamera device: It is a portable device: A filmholder (for instant films) of a medium format camera, is mounted on top of a pair of customised diving googles, that the respective experimentator can wear on his head. The goggles act hereby as a physical carrier to enable direct eye contact between the experimentator and the filmmaterial without any light leekings. A dark slide that is located between the film and viewer protects the film after and before the session.

The result is not only documenting alleged intraocular lights but it is also at the same time influenced by several interferences that happen during the transmission between retina and photographic emulsion.
The image behind the image - Laborint and Lichtung

Photographical paper is mounted behind images. The image absorbes the viewers emission of the virtual fluid and burns it onto the photographic emulsion, similar to the process as described with the photographic wallpaper. The difference hereby is the approach: The viewer approaches an image differently to a wallpaper.°

Images are coated with so called Liquid Light. Liquid Light is a photographic emulsion, used to coat any kind of material: to make it light sensitive. It may be processed after the exposure, the same way as any other photographic paper. In this case, the sensitive emulsion is coated directly onto the surface of the image, and the viewer transmits directly onto the image.°

Laborint - will be an experimental darkroom in disguise. Wth filtered light though, to which lightsensitive materials are not sensitive. The darkroom covers several aspects. It is a protection for the bare light sensitive materials, and at the same time emphasizes discretely the developing process of the work. The darkroom as an experimental laboratory, where images come to light throughout different exposures and developing processes. Though in this case exposures are not achieved due to visible light but exclusively throughout thoughographic processes and projections. The visitor has an active influence onto the results. The exhibition itself is the exposure. Possible results may be revealed after the exhibition.

Further, the rather dim light and the distracting decoration provoke a subtle visual awareness and alertness of the visitor which very subtly leads to an additional influence on the lightsensitive material.
